"Welcome to my wonderful world of art and design.

Beauty is as essential to our well-being as food and water. From ancient times to the present, people have decorated their surroundings with works of art and personal treasures.

I have dedicated my career to creating imaginative works of art for myself and others to enjoy."

  LANDSCAPES and SEASCAPES
McGinnis’ landscape paintings are somewhere between abstract and realistic, painted mostly from imagination. Some are painted on traditional watercolor paper and some are done on Yupo, a relatively new, environmentally-friendly synthetic “paper”. The surface properties of Yupo allow for many nuances and textures that are difficult, if not impossible, to achieve with traditional watercolor paper. She combines a wet-in-wet watercolor technique with mono-print by placing the still wet Yupo on an acrylic base and then lifting it off. The patterns created then suggest a composition and theme, allowing for a dynamic serendipitous reaction to the colors and textures which emerge.

FLORALS
Impressionistic and mesmerizing, McGinnis’ floral and foliage paintings are created with a love of color and texture observed in the natural world. Like the Landscapes, many are painted on Yupo with the same wet-in-wet, mono-print technique.

Painted from imagination, the works are semi-realistic and often reflect nature untamed and are meant to convey a dreamy mood rather than an accurate rendition.

  KALEIDOSCOPICS
McGinnis’ powerfully provocative kaleidoscopic designs are constructed around a symmetrical image whose shapes reflect on each other, the result of a meticulously detailed process beginning with mathematically precise templates developed by the artist herself.

Drawn free hand with pencil, ruler and compass on tracing paper, the basic design is transferred to paper. Then she applies watercolor, gouache, dye, colored pencil and/or ink to create the intricate shapes, patterns and intense colors. The impression of balance, harmony, rhythm and repetition result is a kind of visual litany with deep meditative and spiritual overtones.

    DECORATIVES
These original designs have been inspired primarily by beautifully crafted traditional objets d’art such as Persian carpets, Japanese kimonos, Renaissance tapestries, Moorish architecture, Asian ceramics, and illuminated manuscripts.

These works are meticulously and painstakingly created starting with a design on tracing paper which is transferred to the painting surface. McGinnis chooses colors to match the inspiration source and often includes gold and silver metallic paints as elegant finishing touches. Some of these designs are painted on silk by her and have been adapted for the home décor market.

CIRCLES and SPIRALS, SWIRLS and TWIRLS
Playfulness is a component of creativity. In this series, McGinnis often uses tools in children’s craft kits such as Hasbro’s Spirograph and Klutz’s Spiro Draw to make circular and spiral figures and then builds them up into bursts of colorful energy in swirls and twirls.

Watercolor, sometimes in combination with colored pencil, permanent markers and highlighters are used to enhance the original shapes. The bright hues and swirls create a cosmic, starry, celestial impression.

    KETUBAHS and WEDDING COMMEMORATIVES
Ketubahs are Jewish wedding contracts with elaborate artwork surrounding the text. They are meant to be displayed in the home as a continual reminder of the couple’s vows. McGinnis has created a variety of designs for this form of ceremonial art.

You may view and purchase a ketubah here via a link to ketubah.com where her designs are available on an exclusive basis. She has also created designs for non-Jewish, intercultural, and interfaith weddings which are available here via link to ketubah.com and/or artvows.com.
